Scary Lady Sarah, Chicago 1993 - I usually don’t do conceptual shoots but I periodically did this series where both the model and I were blindfolded.  We would respond to each other mostly by voice, and I would point the camera in the model’s general direction.  Using a manual focus camera, I also had to estimate how far or close she was to the camera.  This was just one of the photos that ‘worked’.  It was later published in my first book “The Beauty of Fetish” (Edition Stemmle, 1998). Photographed with the Canon A1.

Masuimi Max, Los Angeles 2002 - This has got to be one of my most known images. It was the cover of my DVD “Living Through Steve Diet Goedde” (Slish Pix, 2004 - available HERE). It was shot with all natural light in a friend’s loft in downtown Los Angeles. Many people assume her waist is digitally manipulated but it is not. I do not alter any of my photographs. She was able to corset down to a 17-inch waist but the effect is even more extreme because she’s somewhat leaning forward making the corset area of her body further back which only adds to the illusion the smallness of the waist. For more information and to purchase the DVD, please visit my site.

Jessica, Chicago 1994 - Jessica was a very close friend of mine when I lived in Chicago. She wasn’t into the fetish lifestyle but always enjoyed dressing up for me for the sake of taking photos. This particular image has a somewhat George Hurrell feel to it which I love very much. I’ve posted this photo before (and it’s in my first book), and it’s always been one of my best-received images.  However, it’s interesting to note that I’ve gotten a lot of recent criticism for the shot because I didn’t Photoshop her skin.  Sorry, but I believe in the integrity of the moment that I decided to release the shutter and commit the image to film.   Knowing that this is a real person with real flaws is FAR sexier to me than an imagined and artificial manipulation of how a model is “supposed” to look.  Realness gets me off, not some saccharine fantasy.

Kumi, San Francisco 1996One of my older, classic photos of Kumi. This was part of a shoot that I did for my friend Molly’s latex company So Hip It Hurts. I think this was the second shoot I did with Kumi. The first was the Chinatown shoot where I met both her and Midori for the first time. I don’t remember what kind of car it was, but we shot it in a convertible. I was sitting in the driver’s seat and Kumi was on the hood plastered against the windshield. This is one of the shots that got my work noticed right away. Within a month, it was included in my feature spread in Italian photography magazine ZOOM. Two years later, it would be reproduced in my first book The Beauty of Fetish (Edition Stemmle).

Aria Giovanni, Pasadena 2002A previously unpublished photo of Aria Giovanni shot in the rain at a friend’s house in Pasadena in 2002. It was cold and wet that January day, but Aria was a real trooper, and we both managed not to get sick (or get my camera wet).
