21st Century Sex gathers recent works of innovative artists who present a voyeuristic peek into the fantasies and realities of sex today, filtered through their own unique perspective. Painting, sculpture, assemblage, collage, fiber art and installation are used to explore sexual fetish, attraction, identity, and orgasm.
Exhibited works include UuDam Tran Nguyen’s dirty talking F*ck Buttons – an installation deconstructing the language of seduction. Simone Gad’s assemblage piece ” Deux Holocaust Clowns avec Pinup ” uses virgin, whore and clown to explore the object of seduction. Silhouettes of happy couples float above a background teeming with the microscopic organisms that cause syphilis, gonorrhea and HIV in Daphne Hill’s glossy, resin coated paintings. “Gusher5000″, a sculpture by Steven Fujimoto celebrates the female orgasm. Fiber artist Ellen Schinderman needlepoints ladylike scenes from porn films. Steve Diet Goedde photographs a discarded sex toy, Davis & Davis photograph a sexually active children’s toy.
